Obviously, the December 10th post was a no-show. Then again, Galileo wasn't great, so that kind of makes sense... :) I love puns.

Galileo was rather disappointing, at least until the second act (and it stinks to have sit through a whole act waiting for a play to get better). The second act, which started off with a musical carnival number packed with symbolism and metaphor and awesomeness, was much better. It also used some Nazi/Church imagery and big puppets... cool freaky stuff. That said, it felt off-balance because the first act was so bland in comparison, and the extra imagery/themes/puppets made the message seem unfocused for a bit. Intriguing, but unfocused. I didn't know what the author/director was trying to get across to the audience, and I'm usually pretty good at figuring that kind of thing out.

Apart from the material itself, there was some wonderful acting - especially by Robbie (can't remember his last name at the moment, but he was a TA in my Theatre class; I was so proud) and another young man... whose name I do not remember. Anyway, I recognized this second actor from The Exonerated, in which he played one of my favorite characters (and certainly one of the most affecting). SO GOOD. I will be watching him in the future.., gosh that sounded creepy. No creepiness intended. Only admiration. [......] Ok, maybe I should stop while I'm ahead. Oh yes, and I think the impressiveness of The Exonerated may have contributed to my heightened expectations for Galileo. Poor Galileo... Ah well, I'll be seeing The Comedy of Errors this spring! I am so excited - my first Shakespeare play in over a year!!! YAY!!!!

There, that should be enough theatre talk for one post. Phew. I love the stuff, but I seem to have difficulty stopping once I start.

In other news.... actually, I'm tired, "there is too much. Let me sum up" for now:
Lots of stuff happened.
Kidding.

Well, I took my finals, the last of which was at the unholy hour of 8 am Saturday morning - I am now on a month's vacation, huzzah! - big snowstorm - the Christmas play was yesterday (evening, because of said snow) - oh yes, I saw Rent the movie a few weeks ago and am still head over heels in love with it - got a third of my grades back so far (my hardest classes: B in Stats and B+ in Politics, EW)....

Met with Jen Ash (Minister of Discipleship or something like that?) and best friends at the mall today about beginning a college/young adults group (can I get a heck yes? thanks). Saw my dear, long-lost best friend for a fleeting, horribly short while, but I will see her again tomorrow. :) Also, lost my debit card so I couldn't get any Christmas presents and then found it in the car when we left. Yay me!

One week till my other best friend comes up, and then we will all be in the same state! This makes winter more than worthwhile.

Oh yeah.... guess I should add...

(fanfare and drumroll)

I'm getting baptized next week! :D I keep forgetting to tell people. Oops. I need to get on that.... Well, now the world knows, so y'all better show up!

and now I really am going to bed. These unexpected bursts of blogger existence wear me out.

A Fake Attempt at Sort-of, Maybe Blogging

This is just a short post. Its purpose? To inspire, to motivate, to spawn.... {um. insert internet/blog related noun here.} ME.
Since I always think of writing something and obviously haven't since October, I thought that maybe if I just start somewhere, I might actually also end up somewhere. It's a philosophy I often apply to my essays:

If I just write down any and all remotely related ideas that come into my head, I can say I've started. And perhaps impose enough order on them to resemble an outline. Eventually.

It works, usually. So hopefully tomorrow, or the day after, or the day after, I will at some point in my internetting end up here and create a real, bona fide blog entry. My last post was October 10th... I'm seeing Galileo at the Jorgensen Theatre on December 10th. Let's see if I have anything to write about by then.

PS. Colors and font sizes are fun!

A-Blogging We Will Go

Hello, blog-world. I have no idea why I'm starting this at one in the morning, other than I tend to have inopportune timing. A few days ago I was facebook-chatting with one of my best friends, and all of a sudden came out with, "I should start a blog." I have the resources for it (thank you, Blogger), and I've wanted one for a couple years. After all, I like to air my epiphanies, weighty thoughts, make lists, share internet gems, come up with pithy titles... the stuff blogs are made of, indeed. So here I am, having neglected my laundry, Comparative Politics articles, As You Like It performance history research, and most of the stuff on my to-do list, and blogging away.

It will be nice to have a little virtual space of my own. To write, to think, to make pretty... which brings me to... customizing. Ahem. Of course I realize the main point is to write (type? blog?), but I was really excited to decorate my new creation. However, Internet Explorer shut down about three times while I was trying to set this up, so I did not get the orientation treatment. I've seen lovely blogs, complete with quotes and pictures and patterns. I know these things are out there, Blogger, you can't fool me.... But where are they? For heaven's sake, where are the pretty things? My blog wants to be beautified!

Alas, it grows late and I grow tired, so it will have to wait till tomorrow. As will the title, though as I think on it, I might keep it. "Subject to Change" is a rather good name for a blog, isn't it? Maybe I could just add a subtitle to shake things up every now and then... to make it live up to itself.

There are no less than 12 uses of the word "blog" -counting the next- in this post. I don't think there's a synonym.

Goodnight, blog-world!
